Spear Point Collar

The authentic spear point collared shirt grew to be extremely popular from 1928 to 1933.

It is said that the long-pointed, 3.5" shirt collar was designed and popularized by the legendary screen actor, John Barrymore, and was mainly popular in the United States during the first half of the 20th century.

Simply put it is a collar that starts out with a small width in the back and gradually “teardrops” into a larger point in the front of the shirt.

It's meant to take up any space between the collar and the jacket lapel. Unlike many other collars which lay underneath jackets lapel, the spear point was always on show.

Many wore a tie pin with the spear point collar and some who were a little more extravagant wore them open and over their jackets with their sports looks.

In this post, I am wearing a bespoke shirt from 100 Hands and a polo shirt from Simon James Cathcart.
