WE WILL ROCK YOU is a worldwide smash hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton. This multi-million-dollar show crowned the UKs favourite show at the Olivier awards in 2011, dazzles all the senses in breathtaking style and it's now playing in Melbourne, followed by Adelaide and Perth.

I was lucky to catch Thursday night’s opening show in Melbourne on the 1st September. Being a big fan of Rock & Roll growing up and playing in a few bands, music is and will forever be a big part of my life. Band’s like Queen showcased raw talent from every member of the group and Freddie Mercury’s vocals were incredible.

The musical starts off loud and stays that way the whole way through, with a live band playing all of Queen’s legendary hits; We are the Champions, Radio Ga Ga, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust and of course We Will Rock You; it really makes you feel like you are at a live rock concert.

The storyline was set in the future on what Earth was now called I-Planet, set in the year 2350; where real music and instruments were extinct. Global Soft a music government policed what music was allowed and those (known as the “Bohemians”) who tried to create their own were arrested and their music destroyed.

Apart from the music by Queen, the show contained many comedic scenes and really showed what music once was and how it has evolved to what it is today. Play writer Ben Elton cleverly wrote the scenes to blend in Queen hits seamlessly and made the show suitable for ages 13 years and above to relate and enjoy.

The musical has had an impressive run overseas with over 3600 performances in the UK alone and over 16 million theatregoers in 28 other countries thrilled by this awe-inspiring production. The multi-talented cast includes Gareth Keegan (Jersey Boys, Hugh Jackman – Broadway to Oz concerts) as Galileo and Erin Clare (Heathers, Phantom of the Opera) as Scaramouche. Brian Mannix, the lead singer of 1980s band Uncanny X-Men, will return to the musical stage as Buddy, and Killer Queen will be played by the extraordinary Casey Donovan (The Sapphires, Rent). Then Reynolds (Rock of Ages, South Pacific) as Britney, Jaz Flowers (Hairspray, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Fame) as Oz and Simon Russell (ABC TV’s Jack Irish, Neighbours) as Khashoggi.
