Unholy Luxury - Fortis Green

You choose your friends by their character and your socks by their colour

I may not be seen wearing them much through Summer but when the cooler weather hits, socks are an absolute wardrobe necessity.

There are quite a lot of brands on the market with a focus on bright colours and patterns but if the technical foundation on which they're built is lacking, after a couple of wears we're often left with a pilled, saggy, unwearable cotton mess.

With those factors in mind, new Melbourne brand Fortis Green, founded by Ray Willmoth, has stepped into the breach. With a background working in London as a men's footwear and accessories developer for Charles Tyrwhitt (among other brands), Ray's technical knowledge, design experience and manufacturing connections have resulted in an outstanding collection of men's luxury dress socks.

Several months ago, Ray approached me for some input into the brand's development and it was soon clear we had a shared belief that guys should invest in classic, quality pieces, though this doesn't necessarily mean you have to spend a fortune in the process. I believe it's more about educating yourself about production and materials.
The Fortis Green designs are also really strong, with two ranges available including a vibrant collection of patterns such as dots, checks and chevron stripes, but for a classic finish, I prefer the block socks - statement bold colours with a hint of contrast at the ankle.

Fortis Green is using crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to take the first season collection into production. Launched on yesterday, Monday, the 23rd of February, Fortis Green can be purchased for the next four weeks at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fortisgreen/fortis-green-the-ultimate-luxury-mens-sock

The collection will be available through selected menswear retailers from April
