Watch of the Month: Seiko Presage Platinum
Seiko has been around since 1881 and the Japanese watch makers have lead Horology with milestones such as; the world’s first quartz watch “Seiko Astron” back in 1969 to 2012 with the world’s first GPS solar watch again named the “Seiko Astron” which recognizes all the 39 time zones on earth.
Looking into watches and brands I find myself reading about brands that you need a mortgage to buy or others that are oversized, so I am guessing it seems to be a “trend” so wear super expensive watches and as big as possible to let people on the other side of the road watch the time is.
For me personally, I prefer something with proportions usually 38-40cm case. Nowadays it seems to be harder to find watches of this size so when I find a great watch that ticks all the boxes; you will know about it in a new series of Watch of the Month. This will be a series of affordable and quality watches starting off with our first timepiece the Seiko Presage Platinum SPB041J1 .
A classic designed automatic with a brown crocodile strap it features a 40.5mm brushed stainless steel case, sapphire crystal glass, pull out crown and a water resistance of 100 metres. I love the white dial with three hands, calendar date and Arabic numerals for the dial markers, which gives is a nice clean, elegant sports feel as opposed to something a little too formal; so it can be worn every day.
Although and automatic it can be hand wound and shows the power reserve on the dial and like most automatic’s an exhibition glass back. This watch is definitely one to go on my list to buy as it ticks all the boxes for what I am after best of all the price with an RRP of $1500 AUD.
