How To Create Style With Tattoos

Old-school tattoos are rooted in the American serviceman’s interpretation of traditions and symbols that go back thousands of years. Obviously, every tattoo is a personal statement, but there are certain common meanings and associations.

Having tattoos doesn’t change a person, well it shouldn’t and it’s no secret I have one or two. When I was learning about my style at the start I didn’t take into consideration my personal artwork as it wasn’t something I was striving to show everyone. Personally, I don’t care if you have one or not. But when or if you start to get quite a few then it has to come into consideration with the way we dress, it is like mixing too many patterns of the same size. It becomes cluttered and hard to focus on particular pieces.

I made mistakes in the being, well I personally call them mistakes some may think it was still ok. Checked shirts are something I don’t wear anymore unless they are a big oversized check like a windowpane. I personally think it looks a little too busy and so I stick to stripes or solid styles as it breaks up the patterns distinguishing the two with more ease.

Here you will be able to see the difference with striped and solid shirts and how they separate the patterns. I realised this visual trick whilst looking at old photos in my band days, wearing the band merchandise against the tattoos it was quite full-on. Later through the years after leaving touring and bands I was wearing more solid colour t-shirts and noticed the difference visually.
