“Grow a Mo, Save a bro”

We need to start looking after ourselves a lot more, this doesn’t just mean going to the gym and eating good diets. This means checking up on what’s happening internally, all the things we don’t see. The Movember Foundation is an organization that is helping us (Men) keep aware of our health, as like most; out of sight, out of mind! The charity raises funds to help deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programs. Their main goal is to enable men to stop men dying too young so that they can live happier, healthier and longer lives.

Two of the major things to be aware of in men are mental health and Cancer. The statistics show that in Australia,
• On average, men die around four years younger than women
• One in two men will be diagnosed with cancer, by the age of 85
• Suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15 – 44 years
• On average, 6 men each day take their own life
• Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men
• More than 3,300 men with prostate cancer will die in 2016
• Testicular cancer is the second most common cancer, behind skin cancers, in young men aged 18 – 39 years
• 36 years old is the average age of a man diagnosed with testicular cancer.

This isn’t the only thing we should be looking at but it is still quite alarming and something we as men and women can help prevent. Awareness and fundraising activities run all year round, with the Movember campaign in November been noticed worldwide.

Since Movember started in Melbourne in 2003, millions have joined the movement, raising $770 million and funding more than 1,200 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide prevention.
