Tailfeather takes me back to 2014 whilst I was working for Beggar Man Thief, we use to sell their products and what really made me back the brand wasn’t just the great story about young locals buying a retiring saddle maker’s business; it was the craftsmanship and quality behind every product.

To make things even better,Tailfeather  just opened their first store AT 63 Smith St Fitzroy in Victoria Australia.

Here is a more in-depth read into the quality and craftsmanship of every Tailfeather product;

Tailfeather products are meticulously designed and handcrafted by husband and wife team Scottie and Natalia in their studio on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria. Founded in 2010, deep in the Victorian Tallarook ranges drawing inspiration from the surrounding bush landscape. Tailfeather sought out the creation of a timeless Australian minimalist aesthetic combined with contemporary styling that holds practicality at its heart.

The range is built upon the knowledge and experience gained from time spent in the workshop. Each design in the TF stable is proudly Australian made and sourced from the highest quality raw materials. A small team of highly skilled local craftspeople; assemble  limited runs ensuring your Tailfeather investment will be unique and made to last.

Tailfeather continues to develop exclusive collaborations with like-minded design houses and in 2016; the first Tailfeather bricks and mortar concept store opened its doors to showcase the full breadth of the design duo.

Nº 2. Traditional Craft

 Pieces are created using a unique combination of modern technology and traditional crafting techniques.

Concepts created by hand on paper and further developed in the studio. Refined patterns are cut and then trimmed by hand. Panels are hand-stitched and edges are burnished with natural locally sourced beeswax. Custom Melbourne made; solid brass and nickel hardware is hand-set. Branding and details are laser-etched onsite.

Nº 3. Durable Materials

All designs use only premium materials. Combined with minimal paneling, strong seams, and solid brass/nickel hardware ensures Tailfeather pieces will last the distance.

Tailfeather sources house bovine leather from a 100-year-old family run tannery. Australian Kangaroo leather is used for wallets and cardholders. Canvas products are made from Australian made, military grade canvas built for the rugged Australian terrain.

Nº 4. Practical Function

Practical functionality is fundamental to the design principles. Each piece is conceived to serve a specific purpose.

Leather and canvas carry goods are designed, form-fitting the body and distributing weight comfortably. Featuring internal and external pocketing systems, computer sleeves and key-ring clips. Wallets are slimline for comfort and convenience. Accessories are purpose built for carrying convenience.
