“The shape is looser in the pants and in the jackets. With a jacket, though, you don’t want to get rid of the shoulder into the waistline, because then the guy loses his sexiness.”

 – Joseph Abboud

Last season, after 15 years, designer Joseph Abboud made his return to the runway.

This Spring collection for 2017, Joseph said  “The shape is looser in the pants and in the jackets. With a jacket, though, you don’t want to get rid of the shoulder into the waistline, because then the guy loses his sexiness.” What we saw on the runway was nothing less than relaxed raw-edged linen and silk blazers and coats in cream, flax, sand, brown and floral prints- this was the return of resort-wear for every day. The tailoring was more classic in its fit and unstructured to keep them airy .

The trousers might be a little more on the big side for most men nowadays: as they were wide-cut,  roll-cuffed, and some with buttons at the ankle. To be honest, I love this type of tailoring for Spring./Summer it is purposeful. I think we will start to see a lot more of this in the future as brands like Joseph Abboud and Eidos Napoli revert the “game” back to its roots. In this collection, you won’t see a typical blue suit as Abboud did admit that the runway is where he gets to play—“if you want a blue suit, we already have you covered.”
